100 Days of Summertime100 Days of Summertime by Jennifer Tankersley

Summer might not technically be here yet, but based on the weather we’ve had recently (and the activity schedules for my kids), it already is. I know myself, and it’s very easy for me to let time slip away in a haze of regular, daily routines, and the next thing I realize it’s the end of summer and I’ll have missed out on my only chance at a summer with a turning-3 and -5 year old. (Not to mention my last summer with only two kiddos!)

I love the idea of planning ahead and marking out special days to celebrate (like those third and fifth birthdays coming up in June and July), and figuring out other things we can do to make the most of the time we have before this baby arrives and we have lots of upheaval as we get back into a new normal.

That leads me to … summer planners! (Did you really think it was going to be something other than a book? How long have you been reading here?).

What did I really like?
  • The PDF formatting is well-done. Sounds like no big deal, but a few ebooks where the formatting wasn’t done well makes it something I notice and really appreciate now. The table of contents includes clickable links which I always appreciate.
  • There are additional resources mentioned for most days. Ok, every day that I noticed, but I hesitate to say “every day” when I didn’t double-check that that’s the case. Most of the additional resources are links to articles on ListPlanIt, but there are some other sorts included.
  • The activities are not all child-related, and many could work as a general bucket list for summer no matter what your family situation. (I’d check out the table of contents to get an idea of how many might fit for you.)
  • Some of the fun “national ___ day” ideas are included. This is something I could see my kids LOVING, if I announce that we’re celebrating Chocolate Day, or National Ice Cream Day. :)
  • One of the printables included is a Summertime To Do List, with 100 blank spots included. It’d be super easy to use that to make your own bucket list for the summer!
What was I not so crazy about?
  • Those additional resource links on most days require internet access, and flipping between a PDF and web page is annoyingly slow on my computer.
  • Some of the linked articles (especially in the introduction) seemed like information that should have just been included in the ebook.
Other things to consider:
  • Because not every day’s entry is geared towards children, if you’re looking for a list of 100 things to do with kids, this isn’t it.
  • If you’re highly motivated or organized, you could come up with most of the information, ideas, or lists on your own. But it’s nice having it all compiled for you, saving lots of time. I know that I’m not generally motivated enough to do something like this, and having it provided for me is worth it. I’ve got some friends who love the planning aspects and information-gathering it requires, and for them getting it in one ebook would take some of the fun away from them. Know yourself and what you like doing and how you want to spend your time. :)

Curious and want to see more of it to decide if it’s right for you? There’s an excerpt available, which gives a good representation of what is included.

The ebook is $8, but it’s only $5 with the coupon code 100DAYS3OFF.
